Writing to strike a chord or touch a nerve, Branch Isole explores issues and emotions often experienced, but not always voiced.
Mourner
It could be a bullet
out on the street
or an aneurysm
while fast asleep
The methods of demise
as different as each recipient
Yet the results, the same
for he or she named
on death’s certificate
It can come out of nowhere
in an instant’s time
Seemingly striking
without reason nor rhyme
Taking away
“one too good to die”
That’s how it appears
to the mourner’s eye
Are we ever prepared?
Most likely not, it seems
Whether fully awake
or fully in dream
Realized expectations
of being no longer here
No wonder most
live in fear
Hence, the mourner’s tear
Excitation or regret
on one side or the other
of life’s death reality
As mourners wait
for their special moment
to finally see,
if death’s life is to be
