In the Darkest Hours
It’s only when the city sleeps,
where wind will whip across darkened streets,
where lost souls roam
in search of shelter,
or another drink,
another drug to waste away their life.
It’s only when the city sleeps,
do lover’s love,
feeling safe in their state of mind,
never giving thought to lost souls,
or who may roam a darkend street,
or end a life somewhere in a darkened alley.
It is only when the city sleeps,
where someplace else far away,
a darkened street becomes filled with light,
and lovers rise to a dawn-filled morning,
prepare for a new day
and never think of what went on the night before ...
... when the city sleeps.
Us
It’s only when the city sleeps,
That we can be ourselves,
Only then can we be together.
It feels like there is so much,
Separating us, keeping us apart.
But that does not mean,
It is impossible to be who we want.
The world is full of unknown,
And there is unknown between us,
But that's ok, we can learn more.
Life is hard but it is hard for everyone,
We have each other to make it easier,
Friends and family support us,
We, in turn, support them.
We cannot be afraid of what life gives us,
We must accept it, cherish it,
Make the best of everything we can.
Dark lipstick and sexy smirks
It's only when the city sleeps
that I join the world.
I thrive in darkness
The quiet of the night
or the smell of liquour and
sounds of
drunken laughter;
clicking heels on concrete
and someone
holding up a girl
with vomit in her hair.
shadows easily blur details of
inferiority.
flirting with
the twinkling lights
and fireflys.
a temporary moment,
easing the pressure of
enjoying sunlight-
enjoying the morning-
supressing happiness
in favor of forced smiles and
empty productivity.

When the City Sleeps
It’s only when the city sleeps.
That we come out to play,
We roam the streets,
Trying to find prey.
We walk the streets as humans,
A disguise so none can see,
The Beasts below the skins.
We are finally free!
The city wakes,
And the humans return,
As dawn breaks,
To watch their city burn!
Bedtime
It's only when the city sleeps,
The monsters come out to play.
Tucked away in shadows dark,
During the light of day.
But once the moon and stars appear,
Their lullaby swaddling the Earth.
Gremlins, fiends, and boogeymen,
Carouse with boundless mirth.

THE ARACHNIDS!
It’s only when the city sleeps
That the Arachnid creeps...
Moving out of the sewers~
Treading o’er the floodwaters
Ready to prowl...
In the dead of night
Making children yowl
Such a petrifying sight~
Parents have no clue
What they can do
Traps made of glue,
Sticky paper too..
None of them work
Each seem to fail..
The Arachnids scatter
Always finding a way...
To escape from every trap
Never getting caught at all...

“It’s when the City sleeps...”
They said the City never sleeps
but you tell me this isn’t true.
You say there’s no one else awake
...with exception of me and you.
You lift your hand across the sky
to show me life’s panorama...
Drawing down the shades of my eyes
for insight to our human drama...
You’re turning on the TV (...yes..!)
that portal to reality
(...that’s invading our privacy...)
Every channel’s bearing witness
to such puppets... of you and me.
Here we are! with purchase power
now crashing down the aisle...
Here we are in silent auction,
still bidding farewell to our lives...
And here we are, as made maudlin,
in the suds of a soap opera...
And here! completely shot and numb
in causality of a gun!!
Our show down ’long an empty street...
Dreamt and lived, while others sleep.
And yet somehow you comfort me,
lifting sleep from these City ’lids.

Freedom
It’s only when the city sleeps
That we can be ourselves
It’s only when the city sleeps
That we can be reckless
And free
When the city sleeps,
There is no one left to stop us
When the city sleeps,
There is no one to control us
It’s only when the city sleeps
That I can fill my life
With love
And joy
And finally be free from worry
It’s only when the city sleeps
And I am nothing
But a shadow in the dark
That I remember who I am
I was always meant to be free
I was always meant to run
I’ve never wanted to be tied down
And when the city sleeps,
Who I pretend to be during the day
Suddenly melts away
When The City Sleeps
It's only when the city sleeps
that I feel comfortable enough to
admit that there's a small part of me
missing you
ghostly fingers dance over my ribcage
heading downward, shockwaves
reverberate through me, just
like the night we caught the fever
and made love in every room
you made this dingy apartment sing
energy up to the ceiling,
laughing as you came
I can feel your hands
brushing through my hair
comments on how soft it was
how you wanted to feel this way
forever, you and me
you wanted to take the time
to figure me out
so when the city sleeps
I lie awake, it's the only way
I can feel you now
