The Silent Score
I was mere notes upon a silent page
'til you struck up the tune to play.
Upon that instrument of you,
my music floated through.
You played me soft and low
With vibrations of the bow
You played me high and strong
a strident anthem in the song
Tuned by Composer and Musician,
you did not play your own volition,
but supple in the Authorʼs hand
you made my song so grand.
Alone, I am a silent score.
just jots and dots and nothing more.
But together on your humming strings,
I rise up off the silent page and start to sing.
