Let’s Be A Team
The entire school was buzzing. A new elite team? Everybody was trying to guess who would be on the team, as well as explaining why they would be a member.
The headmaster announced the new team about a week ago, on Friday. He told us that next Friday, today, he would tell us who was going to be on the new team.
Only one more hour until the assembly.
I was probably the only kid in the school who didn't care who was on the team. I was probably the only one who believed they weren't going to be on it.
The only reason I was excited for this assembly is so everyone else would shut up. And it got me out of gym class. Mostly the gym class part.
I sat in my class, which was just a study hall. I was the only person in the entire class who was actually doing his/her work.
When the announcement came, everyone jumped up. I snuck my book with me to the auditorium to read while the headmaster gave his speech and read off the names.
I took chose a seat in the middle and began reading my book. Soon the crowd hushed and the headmaster began speaking. I barely listened until he began reading off the names.
"Sophia Roberts,"
Of course, the girl with the photographic memory who can read things at the speed of light. Okay, probably slight exaggeration, but she does read incredibly fast.
"Jason Fletcher,"
The boy who has hacked his way into countless security systems.
"Wesley Myers,"
The boy who can literally kill you with anything and can use any weapon you hand him.
"Lucille Friar,"
The girl who is good at everything. She is insanely smart and good with weapons.
"And finally, Charlotte Hart."
The name didn't register at first. It wasn't until I was being jabbed in the ribs that I realized that it was me.
I slowly stood and made my way to the front of the auditorium. I climbed the stairs of the stage and stood next to my new teammates.
I have no idea how I made it on the team. I wasn't exceptionally good at anything. Most of my classes I was passing with average grades. How did I make it onto the elite team?
Apparently, the rest of the school wanted to know that as well, because after the assembly, students pooled in the front, asking the Headmaster how I got onto the team.
His reply: "Everyone brings their own skills to the team."
Of course, that didn't answer any of our questions. I didn't know what skills I brought.
All I know is as of today, I was a member of the elite team.
