Dredge the River Bottom
I can see my breath
Miles under the river
Fading away like smoke
From a hot lead barrel;
I can see blood
Slithering away
A tall beautiful serpent
Clouding my moonlit night
With its mottled rattle;
I can see the end
Unwilled by the water
It only mirrors what it sees
Beneath floating canoes
That glide untouched
By my watered down screams;
I can see myself falling
Into this deep enchanted slit
Losing breath to life spans of bubbles
Just waiting for a light
Burning white like the moon
To show me where to go next.
