party girl

you've been staring at that screen so long your eyes have glazed over

plus you're still recovering from that gnarly hangover

you leave at night and don't come back until the morning

i guess i'm missing school today, without any warning

i feel like we've switched roles, i'm the mom and you're the teenager

i'm worrying about you and you're coming down from last night's rager

you keep asking me why i don't want to be around you, you're persistent

yet, getting blackout drunk is the only thing about you that's consistent

the worst part is that i've told you all of these thoughts

given you all the information you needed to connect the dots

so there really is no excuse for you to be acting so goddamn ignorant

stop giving me that dumbfounded look, you know why i've been distant

you're only ever there for me when it's convenient for you

do you really think that's what a mother is supposed to do?

you don't seem to care at all, guess i'm no longer your top priority

that's fine, but what's really funny to me is that you think you have any authority

you don't get one and not the other; you're not my mom, only a mother

you're exploding and i'm ducking for cover

so when i get up and leave, not walking, but running

don't be so surprised, you had it coming
