Gingerbread Escape
"It's not high enough!" Sister Ginger yelled from the top of a gingerbread ladder, its top rung inches from freedom: an open window in the bakery's backroom.
"Keep trying!" I yelled. It's the only way out.
A gust blew and the window swung shut on its rickety hinges.
Damn it.
