I did say I would write one... >.>
The dark of night already upon us, we knew our time was limited. If we didn’t complete our task soon, we would suffer the consequences.
Swiftly I ran water from the kitchen faucet, checking that it was the perfect temperature. I squeezed dish soap into the sink, almost spilling some on myself.
My brother was putting the already clean dishes away. The tinkling of dishes being thrown into their respected cupboards echoed throughout the kitchen. Various cupboard doors and objects slammed as he moved from one task to the next. That's when we heard it.
The water running in the bathroom.
My brother and I locked eyes, knowing what we had to do.
We grabbed two bowls, filling them with water until we heard a thud. The bathroom water had been running long enough for it to be warm.
We had a little time, but not a lot.
Both of us were yelling at the kitchen faucet, our faces turning red. Our hearts pounded in our ears, blood boiling to hell-like temperatures.
Then we heard the shower turn on.
Instantly, we shut off the kitchen faucet. My brother and I held our breath, assessing the two bowls below us.
There was just enough water for rinsing the hand wash.
We both sighed in relief.
This time, we wouldn't have to face our mother's wrath of not having hot water for her shower.
