Behind Her Eyes
People always say they see life or light behind the eyes.
That glimmer of hope, they say, that's the prize.
But what of darkness? Of lost faith and pain?
Why are these never spoken about or go unseen?
I saw a girl, her mouth curved in a smile.
But I could see that she had been dark for a while.
Her outward appearance was masked with fun,
But behind her eyes, you could see she was done.
There was no life seen inside those green eyes,
All I could see was the death inside.
