aliens life.
We thought the worst part about alien life
would be the actual aliens.
We have entire genres dedicated to what we would do
in case of an attack launched by our intergalactic enemies.
And yet, when aliens were discovered,
there was no such attack.
They were different, yes,
but that did not make them evil.
One should rejoice, no?
We are not going to fall victim
to the stronger, more powerful beings.
They are not going to kill us and take our land,
they are not going to perform any experiments.
Coexistence.
That's all they wanted.
To deny that simple request would make us the fearsome, evil aliens we so feared,
so coexistence it was.
So even without the gruesome war
between ourselves and aliens,
we were unhappy.
Is it because they look different?
Is it because we don't understand each other?
They are not more intelligent.
They are not more attractive.
In fact, we are mostly the same.
We were all formed from the same Big Bang, after all.
So why is it that we fear the aliens?
Why would we rather be attacked than live in peace?
Why is it that we crave violence from them?
The answer is simple and crushing.
We had it through our heads that our galaxy was designed
for us.
No one else.
Now we are forced to come to terms with the reality worse than we could imagine.
Not the reality that we are not alone - we can accept that.
We cannot accept
that we are not even
special.
