An Ocean Away
You're halfway across the world,
The ocean: a barrier of water,
The massive waves break,
Yet we hold on with our hearts,
It's been such a long time,
But my darling, I'll see you tomorrow.
We always say it will be tomorrow,
Only a day, and then we'll conquer the world,
After so much time,
Fighting against the water,
The ocean gave us fragile hearts,
My dear, I won't let them break.
My longing for you never takes a break,
Sometimes I'm sure we'll never make it to our next tomorrow,
I can almost feel it straining our hearts,
You carry the weight of my world
On your shoulders. Soon, I'll meet you be the water,
It's only a matter of time.
I like thinking back to the time
We spent together on spring and summer break:
Getting into the boat down by the water,
Kisses goodnight, and I'd truly see you tomorrow.
It's magic having our own little world,
Why is love so cruel to such young hearts?
We were always told to follow our hearts,
And finding what that really meant took time,
But then I followed it across the world,
You hugged me so tight I thought my ribs would break.
That was yesterday's tomorrow:
Kissing you in the ocean's salty water.
The tears I shed were only the sea water,
That ultimately connected us through to our hearts,
And as we watch the tides ebb and flow, our tomorrow
Always arrives just in the nick of time,
Before the bonds holding us together get a chance to break.
My love, you are my entire world.
You'll fly back over the water that dared to separate us in no time,
Our hearts stretched over the distance so not to break,
And after making it through so much together, tomorrow we can surely rule the world.
