Challenge
"Oh how I wish I were a rose . . . " Write a first person poem in the voice of a plant.
Time to get back to nature! Write a first person poem in the voice of a plant. Get inside the head of lettuce, explore the inner thoughts of a daisy, or ponder the long life of a great oak. I will enter one of my poems as an example (and to sweeten that prize pot). The winner will be chosen by me and I am looking for creativity, rhythm (rhyming or not), and detail. Good LUCK!
Thanks of the Secret Garden
Thank you Mary, dear sweet Mary,
Thank you for bringing spring and life back to my home,
For awakening my friends from their deep slumber,
And reminding me of those wonderful spring days so long ago.
It's been so long since anyone has shown us such care,
Not since the misses was last here,
Kind mistress Lilias who would bring the little lord,
Young mister Colin, O' what a sweet boy he was.
They would swing from my branches,
Protected from the sun by my leaves,
With the bird houses hanging from my twigs.
Enclosed in our fairy world,
Hidden behind Ivy vines,
And enclosed by Roses hanging from our branches and climbing the walls,
With snowdrops,
Iris and white Lilies growing from the ground,
Creating a world of magic and flowers.
