Escape
Why had I even come here?
I descended the stairs, as fast as I could, listening intently to the sound of him pursuing me. I quickened my pace, my socks slipping on the tile. I hadn't even had time to grab my shoes before I fled.
I started to panic. It was a big house, but I was running out of corners to turn. At some point I'd come to a dead end and have to think fast to escape.
And that's exactly what happened. Suddenly, I was faced with a wall and no way out. There were doors on either side of me, but I couldn't simply duck into one of the rooms. He wasn't stupid enough to believe I had just vanished.
Still, I had to try. I chose the door on my left and dove in, cowering in the darkness, as far as I could possibly get from the entrance. I held my breath as I waited, paralyzed. The door swung open, a shaft of light falling at my feet.
“Where do you think you're going?” He boomed.
I whimpered some unintelligible excuse, but of course, he wasn't going to take it. I cried out in agony as he lifted me from my hiding place by my hair.
I kicked my legs as he dragged me behind him, right back to the very thing I had just escaped from.
