Journal entry 1
It’s dark.
I shut the power off last night. Maybe they’ll think no one is home. The news reports had stopped yesterday; there was nothing hopeful left to say. It’s not like the movies. No explosions or screaming. It’s quiet. They don’t move at the speed of light or scale the side of buildings. Instead they move lost, shuffling through the streets. They still look like people, neighbors, friends.
We all knew this was happening. The chaos was over. Now we just hide and wait it out. I suppose those who are braver will leave eventually, they’ll try. I won’t.
I have what little food I could afford. I filled the tub with water. I’m not sure how many days I have. All I know is the door is locked. Blinds are closed and it’s dark.
I don’t have extra batteries for the flashlight, so this may be the only chance I get.
There’s shuffling in the hallway. Right outside the door.
Maybe it’s a neighbor. Someone trying to survive.
I won’t open the door, no matter what.
The movement stopped.
Something’s knocking.
