The sunset wasn't necessarily pretty but you stared at it like you'd never see one again. Your nose scrunched up at the slight glare of the sun. I watched your for a second before gazing in the same direction as you, trying to figure out what was so damn captivating. You spoke to me but I only heard every other word, you'd grown over the past summer. Your shoulders had broadened and the once sickly pale legs you had were now full and bronzed by the summer sun. You'd spent the summer in Florida with your grandmother, we'd talk every night about the condominium she stayed in and how the guy next door wanted you to help him fix things around his apartment every other day. Something about needing more young able bodies in the area. As that summer had progressed your voice had gotten deeper, it was no James Earl Jones but adults looked at you with a new found respect. As our legs swung off the bridge your eyes in the sky I stared at your Adams apple the way it would bob whenever you swallowed. The stubble beginning to grow on your face not long enough to see but when I playfully cupped your face I felt it prick the palms of my hand. When you finally turned to face me my brown skin hid the fact that my cheeks were burning. Your eyes weren't anything abnormal no Nicholas Sparks sea foam green eyes just brown maybe a hint of green in the sun. Yet in still I found myself holding a breathe as I gazed at you. While you'd grown I seemed stuck in time my face still idled with acne, I hadn't yet grown into my height so I still walked with a gangly step. As we stood you grasped my hand and helped me to my feet we walked the trail back to our cul - de - sac and we were parting ways. The neighbors between our houses had moved out and a moving truck sat in the driveway. It seemed deserted and then the front door opened, a girl about our age stepped out and she smiled and waved in my direction. She hadn't noticed you yet and a large part of me hoped she wouldn't except you came back outside to get something from your moms car. She heard the door shut and when you looked over at her I could see the way you stood slightly taller, chest puffed out in pride, Her blonde hair swung past her shoulders as she walked towards you and if I squinted I could see the look of adoration you both held for each other. Yet I didn't want to see it, so instead I turned and went into my house locking the door behind me. That was that.
