Wishing for Better Days

It was a cold October evening. Mary and John was walking down the sidewalk of Main Street, the busiest street in the city. "I'm worried about how things are going to go in the courtroom", Mary said. "I know how you feel," he said, a deep sigh escaping his nose. The autumn wind blew through their hair, sending shivers down their exposed necks. She forgot her scarf. She knew better. "Things were better yesterday.", Mary said. Yesterday, they had no reason to testify in court. They had no reason to worry about going to prison. They had no reason to worry about mobsters threatening to kill them, should they speak to the police. "Yeah", John said. "Things were better yesterday."
