Awaken

Slumbering for so many long years,

Shrouded in darkness, cold, and all alone.

I hid inside myself, deep where no one could see.

Strong and determined, I fought to remain in control,

I built my walls, I had my fort.

A survivor, and all I needed was me. 

Then, a fateful day, I took a chance,

A bold move really, a small "Hi!"

What came over me, I cannot say. 

My body was stirred, trembling,

As past reminders came flooding back,

But I shook them away, and said, "not today."

No, today was my day. It was for me.

I could feel my eyes begin to focus, 

Blinking the sleepiness gone.

I felt my hearing return, and I heard

The sound of you calling to me, 

That voice that had me drawn. 

One by one my senses were coming alive,

Feelings, I never thought I'd experience again,

Came back, and I began to fall. 

I closed my eyes, prepared to crash,

But your hand caught me and pulled me up,

You came running, you answered the call. 

Before I even knew what was happening,

You were there, surrounding me.

You pulled me close, you held me tight.

You broke down my walls, and took over my fort,

You whispered, "No, you're not doing this alone."

You held my hand, and said, "Together we fight!"

For love is always worth the battle, 

The journey can be long, but

After the night, out comes the sun!

You are my companion, my partner, my best friend, 

You found me and now together we shall be,

Ready, Set...look at me and whisper "Run!"
