What to do if your kid is gay.
Some people think if the parent of a gay kid does not kick them out of the house, that is enough for a parent of the year award. It's not. That just shows acceptance, not support.
If your child is blind, you accept it. If your child is deaf, you accept it. If your child broke his spine and will never walk again, you accept it.
These are things you would never want your child to suffer through, but you have to accept that these are the cards that were delt.
If your child tells you he wants to be a musician, and you go to every one of his performances and cheer the loudest, that is support. If your child says they want to be an artist, and you call that guy who you dated in high school because he owns an Art gallery, that is support.
Support is not just accepting what your child is, it is embracing it, cherishing it, and realize that it is a part of who they are, not some afliction they have.
