M o o n U p r i s i n g

Golden moon above, uprising

Illuminating and disguising

The warm stream still hot from sun

A stallion bounds from the shots of a gun

His riders hair rushing in the wind

Leading along a narrow desert bend

Still on the path their silhouettes span

Ink black mane and a bare back man

Dropping off the beast that he ties to the trees

The rider swiftly embarks and barefoot he flees

He creeps about glancing thru the cabins pane

At a pale skin woman with hair like a ruby flame

Fragile & pink; his foreign eyes fall in trance

On her translucent bosom he steals a glance

As she turns to see his face, she shudders her flowery lips

But quick to her dresser drawer; a pistol she equips

He stares blankly at the seized black barrel

and her porcelain fingers that shake in peril But he grins meekly and backs away

His shadow blending into the gray

Red moon above, uprising

War weapons galvanizing

Muskets booming in the dark

And savage flaming arrows spark

In the distance she hears them brawl

Her body turned in distrust to the wall

She closes her lilting lids until slowly she slumbered

Then brashly she's awoken gasping and encumbered

Tied to her bed post she stares up as he faces

Fear and conviction on her brows he traces

They intently look at each other for insight

No dialogue do they share this empty night

He takes the pistol from her drawer, motioning her to see

A gaping hole in his chest, blood gushing like a plea

Throwing the pistol out the pane, he looks into her eyes

He unties her hand to touch his wound and gently he cries

Empathy is in her stare as she strokes his long black tresses

She tended over him that night, while in her bed he convalesces

Fever at his forehead, she dabbed a cool cloth at his chest

And she prayed for gods mercy on his soul as he rest

Loyal to this brown skin man, she earnestly remained

Just as with her white groom, his memory engrained

With prayers and hopes his health steadily regained

Blue moon in the sky sparkling & rising

Below are a pair of shadows harmonizing

The beat of his drum resounding

The feeling of her heart pounding

She's swirling round the embers

Of a fire of chopped up timbers

A chant of love is at his lips

A dance of love is at her hips

A marriage round a fire aglow

Moonlight wolves howling hello

This unsanctioned union; made in a secret place

Celebrating this wild warrior and his beautiful new Grace

Writhing on the desert floor in a spiritual embrace

Purple moon and silver stars all arose

While a mother and her suckling doze

Little cabin waiting in the summer night

For the warrior returning from his fight

Dark skinned father thru the window came

Put his arms around his babe and dame

And hushed his cooing son by name

Stallion stomping under the solemn tree

Waiting for morning light to be set free . . .
