She first wrote an autobiography, Pioneer Girl which was rejected by publishers. It did not deter Wilder, as she continued writing, she even changed the narrative into that of the third person.
About 10-20 years later, Laura had her first book published, Little House in the Big Woods. It was her first book in a series of “Little House” books, to get published. The last book in the series got published when she was 76 years old.

Her first book was published in 2006 when she was in her 40’s. It is titled “Ancestor Stones.” It is a tale of a young woman who after living in England for many years, returned to her roots in West Africa. The novel received many accolades, and she won the Hurston-Wright Legacy Award.
