Through Her Eyes
Did you hear that Jenna....Their voices trailed off as I walked out of earshot. "So much Drama." Said Lauren. "I think it's stupid how girls are at this school." I'm not sure if they are like this at every school, but it seems to be worse here. "If they want drama so bad you'd think they could more easily pick up a good book, rather than take the time to create rumors and make each other look bad. Honestly it almost makes me think they have to be pretty smart to strategize how to ruin someone's life." I said angrily. Lauren looked at me. "Wow, who pushed your button?" I paused. "I don't know." Lauren and I looked at each other and laughed. Lauren and I had a grand total of one class together, homeroom. We saw each other at the beginning of the day, at lunch, and when we walked home together. We lived so close together it was easy to take advantage of the extra bestie minutes. I walked slowly, not entirely motivated for math so early in the morning. I had barely slept since I started having such vivid dreams about two nights ago. I really hoped this wouldn't become a habit of mine. Good thing that's all they are though. Dreams. I reached Mr. Caidem’s class and made my way to my usual spot at the back of the class by the window. I always did my best daydreaming there. Of course I have straight A's so daydreaming is probably a good stress reliever for my brain, at least that's what I tell myself everyday. I hadn't been paying much attention to anyone until a stranger in my seat glanced up from what looked like a class schedule. That's odd. When his painfully bright green eyes make contact with mine I almost tripped over my own feet. I recognized him. He seemed very familiar. I mumbled an apology and took a seat two rows in front of him. He has a schedule though, and it's september which means he's new, because school started in August and no one had a schedule after the first week. That also meant there's no way I could have recognized him or seen him before. Maybe I somehow saw him in town recently, I'm sure he's been checking it out since he must have moved here recently. I curled my hair around my thumb. Deep in thought, I looked through the plexiglass of the school window. I was always in deep thought, It made it difficult to make friends, especially when I’m not very interested in the drama of the day or who was who's boyfriend. "Hey Julie." A voice said two tones above a whisper. One friend at least. "Hey Lauren." I said in a noncommittal way. "Well, aren't we enthusiastic today. "That's okay, this autumn weather has everyone a bit down in the dumps." She said. I set my gaze back to the window. It was the beginning of September and the trees were already preparing for their winter's' slumber. Ber….innnggg!!! The school bell woke me from my daydream. Everyone rose and scuttled out of the classroom. Mr Caidem hollered after the students shuffling out of their seats. "Don't forget you have midterms next week!!!! Study Study Study!!!!" "Yes, Mr. Caidem" the whole class said in irritated unison. Uggh mid-terms, yup guess I'll head to my usual spot for studying then. Should I ask Lauren over? Come to think of it she mentioned she could use some help studying and we haven't had much time these days to do anything together. Perfect two birds, one stone or however that saying goes. Click. The screen on my smartphone turned on. -

“Hey Julie we should hang out this weekend. I know we have midterms so it might be a good chance to get some studying done annnnnd spend time with my best friend who doesn't ever seem to have time for me anymore ;-P Lol anyways call me when you get this so we can hang out!”
Cool I guess we had the same thought. I better call her back after school. The rest of the day dragged on without anything exciting. Economics was more boring than ever, and physical science was just an academically professional way of saying, P.E. I pulled my cell phone out of my sweater pocket. Scroll. Scroll. There she is. Beep. Calling Lauren. The phone rang only once. "Hey Julie! What's up!? Oh yeah so my mom needed me to help with a few extra things so she picked me up today, but she totally said is was fine if I come over this weekend so talk to your mom and call me back kay! Bye!" Click. I giggled. That's so Lauren, she moves around so quickly she never stops to take a breath. I think I understand what bubbly means now. I smiled, excited for spending some time with my bestie. "Heya" said a familiar voice. "Whats hapenin?" "Oh hi Jared." I said "you know I've got this thing later, wanna come?" "Um well I would except you're not being very specific and I've got to study for the midterms, I've actually got plans with Lauren tonight sooooo...yeah." "Bye!" I ran off before I even gave it a thought. What even just happened. I'm not really shy around people. I mean sure I don't usually prefer to talk with many people my age, because they go on and on about clothes or guys or who said what and why that makes them a B:&$@. I shook it off. Well other than knowing I'd probably sounded rude, I doubt he’d be thinking about it later. I started my walk home. My house was the middle of the subdivision and Lauren's was on the other side. We've been friends forever, because we would run all around the subdivision. After running into each other a few times we just became friends. Such a strange concept as you get older what makes a friend a friend. I'd never thought about it before. I mean when you're younger you meet someone you decide you get along with well enough and boom you're friends. In high school though there's all these rules about hanging out with the right or wrong crowd, what phone you have, what clothes you own, where you go on your free time, and what music you listen to. The list goes on and on. That's why I'll just stick to Lauren. I giggled. Maybe if they stuck to making their friendship better instead of trying to win over the entire school there wouldn't be so much drama. Quality over quantity! That's my philosophy anyways. I unlocked the door after reaching my house and threw my bag on my bed upstairs. I showered and waited for my mom to get home. I checked my phone for the time. 5:06pm.
