Swirls

My love for you was the settlement of dark tea leaves

Swirling around slowly at the bottom of a glazed pocelain cup

Slowly like the breath that deflates my chest, the chest that flutters like the wings of a summer bug

My love for you is the tea you gave me to drink

On days it rained

On days your car wouldn't work

You were at my window when I was burdend by my own distress

You were there to put my nerves at ease-to put warmth in my chest

So then in the afternoon sun, could I rest

My love for you was the settlement of dark tea leaves

Swirling around slowly, as slowly as a jewlery box ballerina

Slowly like the breath that left our beating chests

that flutters like the wings of a summer bug.
