“Eternity?”

Eternity...What is it? What does it mean? How does this concept affect our lives? Is it just an idea to placate ourselves because we, as living creatures, fear death? Fear being forgotten? Fear that our time isn’t long enough to do the things we want to do? Love the people we want to love? Some say they wish they could live for eternity: see the world, experience history, live forever; while others dread the thought of losing friends and family to the embrace of time.

The word “eternity” can mean so many things, and I think it depends on the individual that defines it. To me, there are two meanings: one spiritual and one physical. In my spiritual definition: I believe that our souls will live for eternity in some way or another. Whether it’s heaven, hell, limbo, reincarnated or other. I believe we have a soul for a reason. As for the physical: I’d like to believe we can find a way to make our bodies live longer (even if we have to turn some parts into a piece of machinery) so we can discover more about each other (as humans) and learn more about the galaxy in general. I’d like to explore the universe without having to worry about not having enough time to see us colonize another planet or experience technology after another hundred years...
