It’s not *really* FTL
"So: sell me, really, how you think we're supposed to accomplish this goal?" Cyn asked.
"Warp drives!" Bright exclaimed.
Cyn pinched the bridge of his nose, "Ok, a compression of a warp field in front of a vehicle has some measure of plausibility-"
"Ha! Gotcha on the first try!"
"However," Cyn said forcefully retaking the reigns of the conversation, "the vehicle still exists in real space. You aren't reducing the mass to zero. And before you even get near the concept of applying a negative mass: in doing so you're still applying mass to the vehicle. It has to be zero to reach the speed of light. Sans the fictional and magical 'eezo' I don't see how that works. And I am not even going to touch the theory that going past 1-Light may start to reverse time. Though with this you could get close to the speed of light, which is pretty good considering how bad most of your ideas are. What about inertia problems?"
"Well you're warping space around you, so you're not really moving rather space is moving around you. So no G-forces are applied."
"Fine. You get credit for that. Inertia aside: other ideas?"
"Hyperspace!" Bright suggested.
"See prior: inertia, sudden G-forces?" Cyn questioned.
"We don't know that hyperspace works like real space. Inertia might not be a factor," Bright stated.
"Except you need to accelerate into hyperspace, hence the term 'hyperspeed' my little friend. You'll be in real space until you hit the hyper barrier," Cyn refuted.
"I mean... on a multi-year journey what's a one year acceleration time?"
"I was hoping for something a little more... direct in the time-efficiency department."
"Folding!"
"What?" Cyn looked to the heavens, truly lost.
"It's like... compression of the curvature of time and space," Bright said.
"Gravity? You propose bending gravity," Cyn twirled his hand impatiently.
"Yes! You're curving it in on itself and, with a little quantum entanglement, you can pull two points in the same space and time to a distance of zero - creating an Einstien-Rosen Bridge between two points!"
"But that's not faster than light, moron."
"But it is effectively faster than light!"
Cyn didn't have an immediate response, scratching his chin, "How much power would be needed?"
Bright twiddled his thumbs, "Maybe 10% of Sol's yearly output?"
"Sold. I'll talk to the bosses about getting it funded."
