Finale
I grabbed the heavy bag of glass off the floor and walked to the top of stairs. Ten floors to go down. I just want to be the person I was before this entire thing. I want to be able to walk down a set of stairs or hold things in my left hand. After a little while, I got down to the bottom and to where the bin for the glass is. Basically this is an area that the residents can go to chill, kind of like a tiny garden. In the far corner of this place I have a little hiding spot that I go to get away from reality. It is hidden behind a hedge and is one of my favorite spots. That is where I went and I texted Eden to tell him I might be a while so I can clear my head. I did not tell him where I was though. All I did was take a seat, close my eyes, and listen to the sounds around me. Christmas carolers were singing, a bell was dinging, and tires were slipping on ice but somehow it was peaceful. This peace only lasted half an hour before I heard someone coming through the hedge. As I should have known, it was Eden.
Dillan: How did you manage to find me?
Eden: I know you very well and this is a peaceful spot to clear you’re mind.
Dillan: Until it was interrupted. I mean I do not really mind. You’re a good interruption.
Eden: I can shut up if you would like.
Dillan: No, I prefer to talk with you. We can be silent in a bit. I am glad you showed up here.
Eden: You sound exhausted. Maybe you will get a better night’s sleep knowing that you are safe.
Dillan: Hopefully. Either that or you will have to knock me out.
Eden: I don’t think so.
Dillan: Take a seat. Sorry I only have one so we have to share.
Eden: I don’t mind.
He took a seat next to me. We both did not exactly fit on the chair. Snow began to gently fall and as time went on the snow was falling so hard we could not see. Neither of us cared as we just sat there getting covered in a layer of snow.
Dillan: Come on let’s head back up. It’s only getting worse.
Eden: I agree. We don’t want to be out in a blizzard.
Dillan: Certainly not.
We got up from the single chair, stretched our achy legs, and walked to the door taking us back to the stairwell. He helped me climb the stairs where at the top we were yelled at by the officer for being out too long. We respectfully listened to him scream but did not care to follow what he was saying. Neither of us were in harm and we were in a secluded area. Trey and Nathan who were sitting on the sofa playing with Misty and watching the television, got up to come over to us.
Trey: Looks like someone dumped frozen flour on you.
Nathan: Frozen flour? Sweetie I think you twisted something in your mind or you are just tired because that is confusing.
Trey: A bit of both. Anyways, we tried to tell him that you were safe but he was buying it.
Officer James: This is my job and I want to keep it. Right now, I need make sure you four stay alive or I get fired.
Eden: We will stay here from now on. He just wanted to clear his mind.
Officer James: Whatever.
He turned around to face to staircase and went back to his post. Getting angry over something small is ridiculous.
Nathan: You two go get dressed into some warm, dry clothing. Trey and I will set up something on the television and make some cocoa.
Dillan: You guys are the best.
Trey: Glad we can help. You would do the same for us.
Eden: We would.
We went to get this cold, wet clothing off and they went to the kitchen. The rest of the night was spent on the sofa watching a new program with friends. Snow was piling up outside as the Christmas blizzard hit.
Two days later the officer left and a new door was installed. Christmas was spent with our friends and many phone calls to family. Meza and his whole operation were stopped and nobody else was taken. Everything was fine again. Trey did get to go on the hike we promised him before all of this. Everything healed okay but I still walk with a limp. All four of us ended up moving out of the city to a much quieter area almost like a farm. This whole experience turned out for the better. We are a lot happier now
