The Things I Love About You
a lopsided smile with teeth full of metal,
classic black-framed glasses,
and eyes the color of the Gulf of Mexico,
brown messy hair like chocolate,
and a voice that can calm the stormy seas of my mind,
a sloppy kiss behind the school,
holding on so we don't move apart,
though we know, just eventually, we'll be pulled apart by life,
he'll go to college in my last year of high school,
and we'll spend our last summer on the beach,
counting the sunrises and sunsets
talking for hours on end,
leaving each conversation with a smile,
trailing our fingertips over each other's arms,
sitting, doing nothing, basking in the sunlight,
enjoying the time we have,
hoping, dreaming, wishing, that we will be forever
yet we know we won't last forever,
life won't let it, as everything ends,
and we list, over and over,
what we love about one another,
your smile, your eyes,
the way you look at the stars,
wondering what's out there,
what do I love about you,
the list goes on and on,
from the way you act innocent,
-when you know you did wrong,
and the way you walk slowly,
just to be by me,
or is it the way you pester me so slightly,
but back off when you realize it's more harm than help
I'll have to let you go eventually, but I won't let you go without a fight
