Love is an emotion, and I know you don't have those. And since emotions are fickle and complicated things--as is love--it's kind of hard to understand. You've probably heard those of us made of flesh and blood saying we "love" one thing or another--pizza, coffee, shopping, Nikes, Dairy Queen...
Well, sorry if I'm confusing you, but that's not what love actually is. It's more than enjoying something.
Love goes so much deeper than that, to the very core of who we are. It drives us, motivates us, makes us do things we wouldn't do otherwise. It's when we care so much about someone, that they consume our every thought, permeate our every breath. Everything we do, is to protect them, help them grow, give them life.
They say love is blind, and it is. Loving someone, truly loving them, causes us to see them as they--just humans, people like us. It causes us to understand, to see past every wall they've built around themselves...and still want to protect them, in spite of it all.
The one part of love, though, that so many people misunderstand, is that love isn't taking or getting. (Though you do get good things out of loving someone, like happiness or sometimes returned affection.) It's about giving.
And not only that, when you love someone, you try to protect them. But sometimes, for their own good, even though it hurts to do it, you have to step back. Have to stop protecting, stop hindering their progress.
Sometimes you have to let them go.
I'm sorry if none of this made sense. It's hard to explain, and hard to understand. I never really understood it, either. Somethings you just have to experience to understand.
