Challenge
Challenge of the Week LXXII
You (or your character) happen upon a strange pocket watch. You pick it up, dust it off, and tap it a couple times. It's ticking normally. You pull the crown and everything around you freezes. You press it back into place and normalcy returns. Amazed, you wind it forward, then backward, and impossibly, the world speeds up, then rewinds. Time is now yours to control.
Tomorrow
Time that's been trapped in a ticking pocket watch, aching and itchingly I'm stitching. Connecting the venom of the past with the sorrow of tomorrow. I'm trying to wind the crown forward to see what royalty the world has planned all for me. But as time speeds up, I age and regret the setting of the pace I faced as my own face grew older. I tried to wind the crown back and regain my young frivole spirit, but the crown was too strong for my weak and old hands, just as the Crown is always following her own politics and plans on the weekends. Unlike the Crown, my time came, seeing my loved ones die, faster that I ever could have hoped to blink my grey, closing eye.
