Cleaning House

You laid down a carpet cause you thought it would look nice

It'd cover your floors; they were scuffed up and damaged from years of abuse

Friends compliment your taste

"Nice carpet. Where'd you get it?"

It's been so long you forgot.

But underneath, it's the same old floor with the same old creaks and cracks and nails sticking out

Sometimes you think you can still feel it through the carpet. No one else notices, though. At least, you hope.
