Hey You - I Saw You Too
After I met you I found myself lost as per usual. Another adventure to keep my monster entertained. In a new park, we were facing down the day when I heard his silly voice exclaim: “there! Irony at play!”.
In this new park downtown stood a lonely yellow bicycle perfectly placed as if trying ensure It was there to stay. There was no one around and it was the middle of the day and I knew this was where my monster was trying to take me. No longer confused or feeling lost I realized he was leading the way. Taking me to a place perfect to weather the rain under a great oak tree’s canopy.
As we took in the irony of the riderless yellow bicycle the sky opened up without sound and the rain came in on waves - round globby drops in a summer parade.
Finding shelter under a great oak we secured our bags and set to writing a note. I wrote to my Boo telling her of this place and how much I missed her. I remembered her voice and cried without shame because she was my best friend and this was one of her moments of play. So I jumped up and ran out into the rain dancing like a loon out of step for days.
I told her about you - this beautiful girl with a smile for days. I told her about your monster and how she waved catching my monster’s gaze. I wasn’t sure I would ever feel that again - that feeling of his excitement as he pulls at my eyelashes steering me screaming “HEY HEY! There! Play!” I told her of your song and that you sang the little mermaid. I told her your nature was kind and that I saw a wild one hidden away.
I told her I hope you too knew how to play. I wrote this letter to you because I was thinking about that moment I first saw you. I had just found my little place of happy on this wrinkled, overgrown island world inside me with it’s wild ones, lost boys, and pirates that were all just beginning to play nice. But, I know a smile stare any day.
Thank you for entering my world with a smile that would say “I hope you once again find love some day.” Thank you for your time entertaining my wild monster at play. Thank you for flipping a switch in me saving my heart from uncertainty of future lonely days. I hope you write a song one day with a smile on your face about finding that wild one hidden away. A song about how your monster inside played and played.
