City Lights
Write a poem based off the words "city lights". You must include both the words "city" and "lights" but they can be used wherever you want in the poem in any order (so they don't have to be used as "city lights"). Any genre is okay.
from a distance
from a tall building
I watch,
leaning quietly
on an old roof made of copper,
these familiar lights
shimmering in the dark,
strange people
moving on with their lives,
the glow seems warm
even if the city is still cold,
I wrap myself around in songs and visions
like the finest of silk
mixed with lace,
with the still flickering hope
or just a wish perhaps?
that the concrete jungle
might spare me this time,
and not swallow me up
leaving me in pieces
under the watchful,
always staring,
city lights
