I Never Told You How I Felt (but you knew anyway)

It’s a nonstop thrill ride

Toes clenched knees buckled nails out

claws in stomach tight hair pulled

lips bruised skin raw sweat drips

hands grab bodies melt bodies roar

secrets said Eyes On Me.

But that one thing I want to hear.

What are you thinking?

I know the answer.

That question puts torture

in your soul and I eat the pain,

words stuck in a funnel

poured in and channeled

filtered and weaker.

You’re hesitant, it’s not allowed.

They don’t abide

and so we hide

this in a box we can put in the closet

and dare one another to open it

while it gathers dust and this

fizzles to nothing

with no one to see it but us.
