Challenge
"Take off the mask when you're speaking to me."
This can be figurative or literally. Doesn't matter to me. Can be a poem or a story. Make it sad or happy. Do what you want with this.
It’s You
You indeed:
the masking
you wear
is the you
that you
believe
yourself
to be;
that which
is traced
in relief
is as if
a surfacing
of this belief;
your caper
taking shape
in mastered
covert arts,
holstering
daggers of
defensive
smarts;
I see you best
beneath your
wide brim
...crossing the
gas lit street...
and know you
better within
by the breadth
of your elaborate
silhouette;
the smallest
mask you now
chose to don
says more
about yourself
than you might
otherwise care
to let on;
talk to me
without
this masking
tape and I may
very well lose
insight into the you
you’ve circumscribed
with cryptic clues
to help yourself
and the world
navigate through
these complex
inner workings
of your
unmasked
You
