He stood on the shore before an endless expanse of water - except it was not water. It looked like water; it swirled and rushed and pooled. His feet, bare, toes tucked into smooth sand; dry. The expanse, silent and deafening, pushed against his body, but he stood steady; immoble; a statue; a speck of constant nothingness, surrounded by a slick colorful spiraling mess of chaos. It closed in, but he was not afraid.
