The Understanding
It is said: Be still and know that I am God.
I am the peaceful, vast ocean.
I am the field of rich, fertile soil.
I am the blank canvas.
I am.
On the ocean a wave rises, a star, a boy, a word.
On the field a seed is planted, a fear, a hope, an empire.
On the canvas many strokes, of people, of wars, of atoms.
But I forget the depths of my ocean, get lost in the play of waves.
The field grows thick with trees and weeds, and I forget my soil.
Covered with layers of paint, no canvas remains to be seen.
So I no longer remember...
Before I was human, I was always being.
Before the wave rose, I was always the ocean.
Before the jungle, I was always the field.
Before all the paint, I was always the canvas.
But now I have returned, I found my way back home.
With this understanding, so simple it was hard to believe.
It's true of every human, so contemplate this within yourself...
Be still and know: I am God.
