Haunted by the Memories

The memory that most haunts me

It was the first time my parents fought so horribly

That night, I wasn't at all prepared

Among the hurled insults, screamed curses

The crushing atmosphere of dread,

Of impending doom,

I felt as if I was drowning

A small part of me wanted to drown,

Sink into nothingness and disappear

Just to escape

The darkness of that time

The trauma,

The lingering fears from that fight

Those thoughts stick with me at all times,

But most so at night

When I'm trapped alone

With nothing but my own thoughts

To drive me into restless sleep
