MIDNIGHT.
Celinah dragged her feet on the floor, from the dining area to the kitchen. She was ready for bed. But first, she had to have a bowl of pasta, and meatballs. Then clean up as fast as she could. Her eyes felt heavy, when she looked at the clock it was only 19:00 hours (07:00 pm).
She dragged her feet once more to her chamber. Celinah rubber her eyes and quickly changed into her nightgown. Her lavender silky one, the one her Aunt had given her as a Christmas present last year. She moved her hands over the fabric. It had such a great texture, she really liked how smooth it felt.
Celinah tossed herself into bed. No matter how many times she tried to fall asleep, it failed to happen. Hmm, sleep was not happening for her tonight. Where did it just go? She got out of bed and went to grab a book from the shelf. Maybe that’d do the trick. Reading a story might help bring back the sleep that she needed.
She picked up a book that had a black cover. Celinah wondered where the book had come from. It was not there a day before. Was this another Christmas surprise gift from her Aunt?
The book had artwork of a skull on the front page, it’s eyes seemed to be peering into Celinah’s soul. She dropped the book on the floor when she heard the sound of the door creak.
“Who’s there?”
She looked around the room~ and spotted something moving toward her. This was not good. Celinah dropped to the ground and picked up the book, moving it infront of her. She used it like a shield. The skull of the book’s eyes shined with a red glowing light. Celinah screamed. Then the thing that she had seen earlier came in a hurry toward her. It had one glowing eye, and a sword in one hand.
She couldn’t hide from it now. It raised its sword right over her head. Was this the end?
The book’s skull eyes were still glowing, but now they were lime. Celinah felt the book’s sudden tug, it pulled itself away from her. She let it go, the book’s pages turned by themself and a whirlwind of skulls came out of the book. The thing was twisted and carried away in a whirlwind of skulls. Celinah trembled, this was not what she would have ever imagined to happen when she picked up a book to read.
The whirlwind pulled the thing into the book. Once the book closed with the thing inside it, Celinah picked it up and placed the book this time in a chestnut box. She locked the chest box and placed it in a corner of her closet.
She heard the grandfather clock chime, it was Midnight. She took a deep breath. “Phew!” When she went back to bed, she shut her eyes. She was ready for dreamland, especially after coming face-to-face with....what had she even faced...a ghost.. Whatever it was, it was now not going to bother her anymore.
