Old Year Out/New Year In

When I was young

the days and years

were slow to pass.

There was always time

for everything.

There was always

tomorrow.

In the blink of an eye,

I was young no longer.

What I have done,

the life I have lived

is more

than the life I will live,

what I will do.

As the hour approaches

that will mark

the end of the old year,

I am thankful

to have climbed mountains

seen sunrises

listened to music 

laughed loudly

cried and survived

loved.

Despite the swiftness 

with which

time passes,

I am grateful 

for the opportunity 

to continue.
