The Princess and the Guard
They started merely
As a princess and a guard
A woman of royalty,
Sworn to one day claim the throne
A guard, tethered to a different nation's king
He was sworn to live and die by the blade,
Wielded to shield his Majesty from strife
Never
Should they have been more than enemies
It should've stayed just as it did
In the beginning
Two people
Separated by origin,
Facing off in the name of fealty
But, of course,
Fate rarely allows life to be so easy
Clashes on the battlefield
Soon morphed into clandestine meetings
Conducted at the strike of midnight
Quickly, the princess and guard
Became lovers,
Constantly longing to see one another
Their thoughts were always of each other
With each heated kiss,
They became more enamored
Although their chosen path
Would be rife with adversity
Stalwart, side by side,
The lovers would weather it
Forever together
