I was, I am, I will never be.
I was blind,
hair long, eyes closed to horror but open to wonder.
And then he came,
forced my eyes open with his brutal blade.
And my first sight was horror.
I am no longer blind.
I can see the true world that young me never knew.
Horror and wonder are lovers,
I learned, and now I know that
you can't have one without the other.
I will never be the old me,
who could smile at beauty,
because I know now that
for every birth there is a death.
And for every kiss, there's
a goodbye.
I was a sunny faced child with no knowledge of the truth
that lay outside my castle walls.
I was warned, oh I was warned
of the creatures outside.
but I knew not, I knew not
of the danger fueled by pride.
Greedy, I grabbed for the forbidden apple,
and fell out of my castle of Eden.
Outside of the walls,
no one but the monsters could hear my desperate calls.
Surrounding me with evil stares,
I know now that I am going to be eaten alive,
and I will never return
to the Castle of Eden.
