Kiss of Death

Wings, light and beautiful, carried me away on gusts of wind that rose from just below the clouds, hanging over the trees with a heavy sigh. The perfectly silent and clear night felt like a foreboding sign, but when I kissed you, long and deep and soft, your lips gave me those wings to fly.

As I stood on the roof that night, looking down on the city lights, you reached up to me, promising an escape from my earthly problems and sorrows. I believed in your escape, and wanting you, I found you lips, your kiss. Into you, I found myself leaning, and then falling, and for a moment I was flying. The Earth held its breath as my world stood still. Then it all came crashing down on me, the problems I had wanted to escape and the relationships I hadn’t. And I realized it too late. For with the kiss of death, the breath of life had been forever stolen from me.
