It has been called, “ugly, slow, old-fashioned, boring, and hard to watch.”
But to see five diverse young men (Brooklyn, California, Guinea Africa, Indiana, Philadelphia ranging from 5′8″ to 7′) in lockstep, each knowing his role and staying within it, each of the five moving in different directions like some crazy, mechanical model of the cosmos, each of them constantly in the right place at the right time, always in perfect postion to help one another as though they are a stick puzzle where moving one moves all of the others while keeping them spaced perfectly, and spread perfectly... that is the defense of the University of Virginia Cavalier basketball team under Coach Tony Bennett, and it is a beautiful thing to watch, while their humility post game was a refreshing thing to hear.
It is also a National Championship team... and well deserved.
And it is none of those things listed in the first sentence.
“Go ’Hoos!”
