“Soldier”

“I miss you.”

Cradling my chest as if my heart’s about to break,

I struggle for air

as my lungs begin to ache.

Crying uncontrollably since the day you left,

Off to fight a losing battle

leaving me bereft.

Medication and therapy didn’t do the trick,

Every time I thought of you

it would make sick.

In my dreams I should’ve said more,

but you simply smiled and waved

before you went out the door.

“I miss you too.”
