Wake Up
Footsteps thundered behind her as she ran. An army of black, faceless soldiers chased after her. “HELP!” she screamed, but no one was there.

“Alexa... please, wake up! I never meant for you to... be here...” Robin quietly sobbed as the heart rate monitor beeped evenly. He held her frail hand in his.
‘Oh, if only I could go back in time,’ Robin thought sadly as he looked at Alexa. He hadn’t meant to accept the dare. He hadn’t meant to drive blindfolded. He hadn’t meant to back into Alexa.
She wasn’t even supposed to be there.
And so, the guilt-ridden, orphaned older brother sat there, with a lingering voice in the back of his head that occasionally whispered, “You won’t be a brother anymore and it’s all your fault.” It took all of his might to shut the voice up.
“You have to wake up—” Robin was cut off halfway through his plead to Alexa. The room was suddenly plunged into darkness, like Night itself had sneaked into the room and consumed it with its darkness.
The heart rate monitor began to beep rapidly. “NURSE!” Robin bellowed, throwing aside the curtain surrounding Alexa.
The nurses and doctors arrived, but all of them knew it was too late.

“Open your eyes, Alexa!” Alexa looked up at the sky. “Mom?” Her (dead) mother’s voice faded in and out. No reply came. “That’s official — I’ve lost it,” Alexa mumbled, looking around.
The soldiers had surrounded her, changing the formerly-white expanse into black. ‘Honestly,’ she thought ruefully, ‘white looked a lot better than black.’
Suddenly, her world began to tremble. “ROBIN! HELP!” She screamerd the names of everyone she knew, to no avail.
Electric shocks shot through her body, causing her to convulse wildly. “ROBIN!!!!” she screamed as she fell... and fell... and fell...

Alexa shot up. “W-where am I?” She looked around wildly. “Robin?” Robin looked up from where he was slumped in his chair. “Robin!” Robin ran over as fast as humanly possible. “Alexa!”
Robin threw his arms around her shoulders. Alexa hugged him back, not caring about the IV lines in her arms.
No one knew how long they stayed like that, but it didn’t matter to them. All that mattered was that they were together again — and they were never going to let each other go. Never again.
