Excerpt from working novel, “No Bounds”
Tick-tick! Tick-a-tick! Tick!
I couldn’t tell you how long I was out, why I felt air so cold it make the hairs on my arms rise, or why the air was also sterile; but when I heard those all too familiar and terrifying “ticks,” I feared the place I knew I was back in. What if Ross and the rest of the King Cobras has found out where I was and attacked Aldric and his pack? Was this how I managed to be back in the warehouse? No, that didn’t seem right. I may not know a lot about werewolves, but I don’t think Ross and his men would be able to overpower them. Then again—
Tick! Tick! Tick-a-tick! Tick! Tick!
What if Ross had discovered whatever is a werewolf’s weakness and has Aldric held hostage somewhere in the warehouse? No that can’t be, can’t be, can’t be!
Tick! Tick-a-tick!
Why does Gregory, who usually makes that sound above my ceiling’s grated window, just STOP!?! I can’t be back in the warehouse! I can’t! I can’t!
Beep-beep! Beep-beep! Beep!
Wait a minute! Ross would never waste a heart beeping contraption on me— I-I must not be back at the warehouse! I don’t know whether to be happy, relieved, or what! But I am most definitely not back the warehouse!!! And that sterile smell to the air must mean I am back in room Agatha had me in when I first woke up in on my first day at the pack house. Oh please! Oh please! Oh— please! But then where are the ticking sounds coming from?
“Vivila honey?” I could hear Agatha say. “Can you hear me?”
I feel a rubber cover finger lift one of my eyelids open and blinding light scanning eye before repeating the action on my other eye.
