Twisted Stories
Unfortunately, due to my busy, busy schedule, I’ve never truly had time to play the games, but that doesn’t change my love for them. Instead, I watch them while I work on school or whenever I have a free moment. I’ve seen many different games, but my two favorites would be Until Dawn or Layers of Fear. The thing I love about horror games is the story and the lore they possess. The further you dive in, the more twisted it gets. The reason I love these two games so much is because of this and all the intrigue they bring.
Until Dawn. The story is complex and simple all at the same time. However, the best power is how easily they confused the player. Unless you’ve been playing your whole life, it doesn’t make sense until the very end. Also, the undertones of the internal struggles of the characters, especially one character. Josh, the brother, suffering and grieving for his long-gone sisters. The thing is though, what I seriously loved, was the inclusion of wendigos. Wendigos don’t always get a lot of representation in stories, despite having incredibly interesting lore. They’re some of my favorite creatures and it really excited me to lay this game. These are what making is bone-chilling and creepy. You don’t outright scream, but you get goosebumps and chills from the story as you play.
Now, about Layers of Fear, the story is even MORE complex than Until Dawn but is just as creepy, maybe even more so. The story of This game is told more through nightmarish scenes and situations. Often as if he’s hallucinating or is drunk, which as we find out through the game, he often is. The story is often told through imagery and symbolism, making you piece together the story, which by itself isn’t scary, just... sad. Layers of Fear does actually have a sequel and it’s pretty much just as good as the first. More imagery, another complex and saddening story, but the same chilling effects.
All in all, these two games are not only some of the scariest and creepiest games I ever have seen but two of my absolute favorites. I highly recommend these games to anyone interested in and looking for something weird and scary to play.
