Chapter Seven
Aiden Sparks leaned back in his seat and tried to scratch his forehead with his cuffed hands. He would have looked like any other average man if he had not had the cuffs on his hands. His name would bring to mind images of tattoos, piercings, and gorgeous hair. In reality, he had short fluffy dust blonde looking hair and slightly chubby cheeks that gave his mud water brown eyes a child-like look.
“I was just looking for a place to break into and get some money. I got caught and Kieran took pity on me. I got pro bono help from his law firm. I was really surprised when Madoc told me that he had been killed. When I knew him he was a really generous person who sparred a lot of time to personally help me.”
Kacey who was taking notes of this questioning looked at Dinah briefly with a confused look on her face.
“That makes sense but based on the reports from the officers who arrived on scene first witness said that there were at least two homes that looked like no one was the and you chose the one that had a car in the driveway and a living room light on. If you had just been looking for a place to get some cash why didn’t you go into one of the houses that looked like it was empty of people?”
Dinah who had been leaning against the door frame of the room watching out into the hallway had only turned to watch what she was listening to when she heard the complication in what Sparks had said.
“I got caught, obviously I’m not the smartest criminal.”
“So you have no personal connections to Kieran Di’Ode or the Di’Ode family?”
Aiden peeked a glance at Madoc to be met with a look that said don’t say a fucking thing.
“None that I know of or remember. I hope you catch his killer but I have to go. I have to go to court in a few minutes.” He stood and made way to the doorway where Dinah was essentially blocking their path. Madoc who seemed frustrated and all-around done with the situation slid past Dinah but Aiden who seem to be very nonchalant about the whole thing was willing to wait for her to move.
“One more question before you go. Do you know a woman named Adeline Bellamy? She was the other victim found in the theater that night.”
His nose crinkled up and he shifted uncomfortably in his brown suit.
“African American woman...bit nervous and bossy from what I recall. Yeah, met her once about 7 months ago. She was testifying in a case about...I don’t remember what and was waiting for the verdict at the same time I was waiting for the verdict on whether or not I was guilty. Talking to a man she called Marcus the way across from me and looked pretty angry at him.”
“How did you know her name?”
He snorted, “I remember her name because the dude called her Adeline and then when she was called in for the verdict they said, Miss Bellamy.”
“So you had no personal relationship with her?”
“Not unless you count eavesdropping on someone’s conversation because you’re bored.”
“I don’t”
She stepped out of the doorway and into the hallway.

The two detectives settled into the stifling hot care and started to drive towards their next location with the windows down.
“Well that took less time then I thought it was going to.”
“Yeah, and we got less information than I thought it was going to.” Kacey flipped through her notes looking less than pleased.
“On the contrary, we now have some more focused questions we can ask Makus Nolan about his work relationship and/or friendship he had with Adeline Bellamy.”
“I guess your right. Should we call him in to the station or make a house call?”
“I want him to be realized when we talk to him but I want it to be formal enough where we can record the investigation and not make the mistake we made this time.”
“Hey, I take good notes.” She crossed her chest and tilted her head up with an indignant flare.
“I’m not saying you don’t take good notes but you rake notes of what you think is important. He might’ve said something we dismissed but may prove important later in context.”
“Yeah...I’m glad we get to investigate a house next.”
“But I’d like to see if we can talk to Nicholas again if he’s a bit calmer.”
