Age

Age had been a long-time friend of hers.

She had known that,

Eventually,

Age would kill her.

That wasn't a problem,

Though.

She knew all things must end,

And she was ready to move on.

She had her snack before bed,

As usual.

Toast,

With butter and jam.

She laid in bed,

Knowing she would go.

She let herself drift off.

Smiled,

When her friend woke her.

"It's time."

It said.

With one last breath,

She said one last thing.

"Goodbye."

And she closed her eyes,

Slipping from this world,

Forever,

Into the next,

Where she was met with peace.
