Where...? Oh, That’s Right!
I'm trapped in a room. I need to escape. Well, I suppose the first thing to do is to assess the situation, note my surroundings. Does the room that I'm in have a door or windows? If so, I should try the door. It might be open. I try the handle. If the door opens, turn to page thirty-four. Don't be absurd! This isn't that kind of story. Maybe the door doesn't work. Alright, windows. Perhaps I can get a better understanding of where I might be. Am I on the first level of a building or on the thirtieth? Why would I be so high up? Whoever put me in this room would have had to drag me up so many flights of stairs. Unless there was an elevator! Still, the thirtieth floor of some random building would be ridiculous. What if there are no doors or windows? How would I have gotten into the room? Thinking about that will give you an aneurysm for sure! Maybe I was lowered into the room from above. That might be hard to do on the thirtieth floor. Nope, that's still ridiculous! What about the walls of the room? Are they drywall or concrete? I could break through drywall I think. Then I would just have to pray the studs of the framework aren't too close together. I could squeeze through that. Or maybe it's drywall covering concrete? That would hurt to try to break through. Especially since I have no tools and would have used my hands to break through! Wait a minute! Tools! What else is in the room with me? Maybe a bed or a chair? Surely I wouldn't be forced to just stand all day, or to sit or lay on the cold, hard floor. What kind of savages have kidnapped me? Maybe no one kidnapped me. Why is that the only explanation for being trapped in a room? I mean, I'm not chained to anything. Not that they would have needed to chain me to anything, the savages! I'm still on the kidnapping for some reason. Well, I wouldn't have been dumb enough to trap myself in a room! Oh, what if it's not a literal room after all? Maybe the room I'm trapped in is my own mind! That's deep! That's some psychological stuff there! Well, this has just gotten out of hand. I know I'm in a room. I can hear sounds; beeping and whirring. Wait a minute! I think my eyes are closed. Let's open those up and see where we are. It's a hosptial room! I'm hooked up to some machines by tubes! So I AM trapped in a room. But I don't think I can escape yet. I don't remember being discharged. What a wild imagination I have though! I suppose I'll go back to sleep.
