Illusions

Looking into the beauty of the night

Into the field of daisies that grow in patches

Into the sparkling dew on the morning grass

You would think that the world is truly magnificent

And the trees and stars and clouds are

The birds and fish and dogs are

The mountains and rivers and cities are

But those who inhabit it are not

The violence and hate and cruelty

Do not match the illusions we see before us

The visions meant to avert our eyes from the wretched world we live in

So, looking into the beauty of the night

Into the field of daisies that grow in patches

Into the sparkling dew on the morning grass

I can say with certainty that the world is not as beautiful as these images make it
